Chicory Grows Roots Below 3 m Is That Beneficial under Water Stress? Organic Eprints

Introduction Water scarcity is a major limitation to crop production worldwide. Deep-rooted crops can potentially allow exploitation of water that more shallow rooted crops cannot access. Several agricultural crops grow roots of several meters depth within a growing season, and thereby get access to water originating from wet season surplus precipitation stored in the soil. The aim of this study was to test the hypotheses 1) that chicory roots can grow below 3 m within a growing season and 2) that chicory shifts its water uptake downwards when the top soil dries out. Effect of Strategic Irrigation on infection of Apple scab (Venturia inaequalis) Organic Eprints

Strategic irrigation is a method to prevent Apple scab. It is performed by irrigating the orchard floor in dry periods during spring, 24 hours before rain forecast. Irrigating the old leaves on the orchard floor will elicit the release of ascospores, but due to the dry trees and the dry weather, the ascospores dry out without causing infections.

Strategisk vanding mod æbleskurv Organic Eprints

Æbleskurv er en svampesygdom, der giver plettede æbler og blade. Især i fugtige somre kan svampen reducere æblers kvalitet og udbytte voldsomt. I nogle år er æbleskurv ikke problematisk, det var bl.a. tilfældet i 2008 og 2009.
